MARY ALICE JOHNSON
RYT 500, Teacher of Yoga Therapy
HC Yoga Studio Coordinator
Mary began her yoga practice 10 years ago and has had the privilege of instructing classes since her first certification in 2015. Since then, she has grown as a student under several skilled teachers and made many new friendships in her yoga community. She is grateful to have worked with all age groups including her own students in elementary & high school, her peers and seniors. She most enjoys helping people go beyond the physical practice of yoga to delve more deeply into the spiritual practice in order to live a joyful and abundant life. She is currently studying to become a Yoga Therapist at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health and will do her internship with Seven Avery-Williams here at HC Studios and Kripula in Massachusetts.

With a deep desire to impact others and help them reach their potential, Gloria is a natural teacher. With her Masters in Mathematics Education, she taught mathematics, computer science, and German at the secondary and post-secondary level.
In her first year of teaching, she discovered the benefits of yoga. A Hatha Yoga class at her local YMCA helped her release stress and find ease in her body. In 2012, she committed more time to her yoga practice with the support of excellent teachers. Desiring to share the positive transformative benefits of yoga, she completed a 200-hour teacher training in 2019. Since then, she completed an additional 200 hours of training and taught a variety of yoga classes at Lake Michigan College, the YMCA, and at Gun Lake.
Gloria finds deep pleasure in the natural world hiking, kayaking, biking, swimming and gardening. In nature she feels restored, renewed, grounded and inspired. Friends describe her as adventurous, compassionate, curious, faithful, welcoming, playful, diligent and a life-long-learner.
